Major League Baseball’s owners received a presentation during this week’s owners meetings regarding the potential for MLB players to participate in the 2028 Olympic Games. Baseball and Softball have been played in the Olympics seven times and were added as a potential event for 2028. The Commissioner of the MLB highlighted the pros would be the attention and game recognition while addressing the potential logistical issues. Ideas have floated around potentially cancelling or postponing the All-Star games to accommodate.

Earlier this week the Commissioner of the NHL announced players would be allowed to compete at the next Olympic games. The 2028 Summer Olympic Games will be played in Los Angeles, California.

🅰️ Commissioner addresses A’s situation

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred stated at the owners meetings that he would be “disappointed” if the new Vegas stadium for the A’s was not open by 2028.

In the interim, Manfred said he was comfortable with where they are in the process. The A's lease at the Oakland Coliseum expires after this season so both the team and league have been exploring places to play until their stadium in Las Vegas is complete and will need to find something rather quickly.

All this comes as the Las Vegas mayor delivered an unexpected message regarding the Oakland A's planned move by saying ”they're better off in Oakland.” Vegas seems to be a market the league does want to be in at some point however.

"I would be disappointed if we didn't open that stadium, Opening Day, 2028”
