At Spring Training on Monday, Nationals principal owner Mark Lerner stated that the Nationals would no longer be for sale. Lerner, whose family’s fortune came primarily from real estate, originally explored a sale in April 2022. After two years of uncertainty, he stated his family had made the decision not to sell.

Mark’s Father, Ted Lerner, bought the Nationals from the MLB in 2006 for $450 million and then transferred daily team control over to his son, Mark, in 2018. Ted passed away in 2023 at the age of 97.

“No. We have determined, our family has determined, that we are not going to sell the team”

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt made it clear on Sunday that he is fed up with all the recent rule changes in the past years to Major League Baseball. Both 2023 and 2024 saw significant changes to how the game is played, especially for pitchers like Bassitt. Bassitt highlighted his desire for consistency.

The 2024 season will feature a number of rule changes including:

  • Pitch Clock - The time between pitches with runners on base is now 18 seconds, down from 20

  • Mound Visits - Down from 5 to 4

  • Runner’s Lane - The lane to first base will now include the space between the foul line and the infield grass, adding roughly 20 inches
