MLB brings back players weekend
For the first time since 2019, MLB will dedicate three days in August to players, focusing on showcasing them beyond their stats and on-field performances. From August 16-18 different aspects of players lives will be demonstrated through a variety of in-stadium events and broadcasts. The schedule is as follows:
Fun (Friday, Aug. 16): Fun aspects of players' personalities, friendships, and off-field interests will be featured.
Causes (Saturday, Aug. 17): Focus will be on charitable and community initiatives that are important to players.
Appreciation (Sunday, Aug. 18): Players will celebrate the people who helped them on their path to the Major Leagues.
During the weekend, players will wear special New Era caps featuring each players' uniform number on the side panel in a "youthful design," according to the release. Players also will be able to use customized bats during the games and can wear cleats with personalized designs as well. This is different from when they historically had nicknames on the back. The weekend was put on pause in 2020 for COVID and had not made it back into the schedules since.
Dusty Baker wins lifetime achievement award
Dusty Baker, a baseball legend, recently retired from managing and rejoined the San Francisco Giants, his former team, as a special assistant. Baker's career spanned both playing and managing. He played for 19 seasons before transitioning to managing for over 26. Notably, he achieved the ultimate baseball accomplishment by winning World Series rings on both sides: as a player with the Dodgers and as a manager with the Astros in 2022.
Baker's managerial record is truly remarkable. He stands among a select few with over 2,000 career wins. Even more impressive, he's one of the very few to have World Series rings from both his playing and managing days. This achievement places him among the elite in baseball history. His recent Lifetime Achievement Award further solidifies his incredible status.

Former MLB star jailed for child sex crimes
Dustan Mohr, a former Major League Baseball player, will spend nine years in an Indiana prison after pleading guilty in March to three sex crimes against a 13-year-old girl. He had been hired to coach at Northrop High School and is accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Later, the girl would tell investigators in multiple interviews Mohr had touched her in a sexual manner during training sessions and the two had exchanged private digital images. She also told investigators Mohr touched her in a sexual manner while the two were inside his vehicle at times, court documents said. Court documents also revealed that Mohr had given the victim a separate phone to communicate with him. This phone was already loaded with inappropriate images of Mohr.
