Guardians unveil City Connect jersey
On Sunday the Cleveland Guardians unveiled their new City Connect jersey. City Connect uniforms are designed to celebrate the deep-rooted history, culture and spirit of a team’s city.
The new jerseys are red and blue to stay true to the club’s history, but they feature richer hues than their other uniforms. The color of the pants and the texture of the jersey tops are both sandstone, which is influenced by the Berea sandstone from which the bridge pillars were carved more than 90 years ago. In the collar of the jersey, “EST 1901” is printed to honor the first year of the organization’s existence. Above the tag that gets tucked into the player’s waistband reads “THE LAND,” a common nickname for the city.
The Guardians will first wear their new uniforms on Friday against the Twins. They will be worn again on Sunday.
Ohtani gambling saga to get TV series
The Canadian-American entertainment company announced on Thursday that it's developing a scripted series based on the scandal.
According to a report by Alex Andrejev of The Athletic, Tony Award winner Scott Delman and sports reporter Albert Chen will produce the series.
It will detail the story of Ohtani signing a record 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers just before news broke one day into the MLB season that Ippei Mizuhara, his former interpreter, allegedly stole nearly $17 million from the two-time MVP's bank account to pay off illegal gambling debts.
Mizuhara plead guilty to the charges on May 8, and he could face more than 30 years in federal prison under the plea deal, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Mizuhara's arraignment is scheduled for May 14.
